{"id":370,"date":"2013-03-08T15:42:15","date_gmt":"2013-03-08T21:42:15","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.visualconstructionmarketing.com\/?p=370"},"modified":"2014-01-12T04:46:35","modified_gmt":"2014-01-12T04:46:35","slug":"make-a-trackable-qr-code-for-your-business-card","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/visualconstructionmarketing.com\/2014\/make-a-trackable-qr-code-for-your-business-card\/","title":{"rendered":"Make a Trackable QR Code for your Business Card"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>How to make a custom QR code that reports to google analytics in about 5 minutes.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>So an associate of mine told me the other day that I need business cards. \u00a0 He&#8217;s right, even though I do most of my business online, there still is no substitute for a face to face meeting and a card exchange. \u00a0 Another friend said, &#8220;put a qr code on it&#8221;. \u00a0 \u00a0I have seen google&#8217;s custom url builder and how you can use that to build a link that can have google analytics reporting built into it. \u00a0So I figured :<\/p>\n<p><strong>&#8220;Why not include a QR Code on my business card that, when scanned, reports back to my google analytics giving source data for the traffic, and send people to my web site?&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Step One &#8211; The Destination URL<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Navigate to the page you want to be the destination for your qr code. \u00a0 Go ahead and highlight the entire web address in the url bar and copy that address, the whole thing. \u00a0 Use control c on the pc, \u00a0use command c on the mac or choose edit&gt;copy. \u00a0 If you have a mobile version of your web site, use that link. \u00a0If your site automatically detects mobile or if it is mobile dynamic, you&#8217;re good to go.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/visualconstructionmarketing.com\/2014\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/stepone.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-371\" alt=\"stepone\" src=\"https:\/\/visualconstructionmarketing.com\/2014\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/stepone.jpg\" width=\"488\" height=\"368\" srcset=\"https:\/\/visualconstructionmarketing.com\/2014\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/stepone.jpg 488w, https:\/\/visualconstructionmarketing.com\/2014\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/stepone-300x226.jpg 300w, https:\/\/visualconstructionmarketing.com\/2014\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/stepone-400x301.jpg 400w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 488px) 100vw, 488px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong>Step Two &#8211; Create a new custom URL<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Use google&#8217;s custom URL builder to make a new url that will send the information to your google analytics account. \u00a0 Fill out the form. \u00a0You don&#8217;t need to set anything up on your google analytics page at all, just filling out this form will report the data into your analytics results automatically. \u00a0 It&#8217;s that smart and simple. \u00a0 \u00a0Here is how I filled it out. \u00a0Once you fill in the data, just click generate URL, highlight the new link and copy that text. \u00a0 \u00a0Here is the link to the <a href=\"http:\/\/support.google.com\/analytics\/bin\/answer.py?hl=en&amp;answer=1033867\" target=\"_blank\">Google Custom URL Builder<\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.visualconstructionmarketing.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/step-two.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-372\" style=\"border: 1px solid black;\" alt=\"step-two\" src=\"http:\/\/www.visualconstructionmarketing.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/step-two.jpg\" width=\"450\" height=\"263\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong>Step Three &#8211; Make your QR Code<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">There are a lot of free services to do this with, \u00a0just google search &#8220;qr code generator&#8221; \u00a0or just use <a href=\"http:\/\/www.qrstuff.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">this one here<\/a>. \u00a0 \u00a0Choose web site URL, \u00a0paste in the custom URL you just copied and\u00a0\u00a0play with the options a little bit, \u00a0then you can download the qr code as a png image &#8211; or choose one of the other options. \u00a0I downloaded the png image.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.visualconstructionmarketing.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/step-three.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-373\" style=\"border: 1px solid black;\" alt=\"step-three\" src=\"http:\/\/www.visualconstructionmarketing.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/step-three.jpg\" width=\"450\" height=\"203\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong>Step Four &#8211; Add image to your business card<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">This is my current business card design, it&#8217;s a work in progress, but you can see the qr code on the card. \u00a0It is a square design so you are looking at the front and the back of the card . . .<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.visualconstructionmarketing.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/car-preview.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-375\" alt=\"car-preview\" src=\"http:\/\/www.visualconstructionmarketing.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/car-preview.jpg\" width=\"350\" height=\"700\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong>Step Five &#8211;
