Boise Cascade Multi-Family Fire Assemblies

Project Description

This 3D technical animation demonstrates three specific wall-to-floor intersection details designed to achieve a 2-hour fire-resistance rating in Type III construction using Boise Cascade engineered wood products. The video provides a clear visual breakdown of how BCI® Joists and Versa-Lam® LVL Rimboard can be utilized as non-FRT (Fire-Retardant Treated) alternatives within these assemblies. It walks the viewer through the construction sequence layer-by-layer, from the 2×6 FRT lumber framing to the final installation of gypsum board, ensuring the fire-rated assembly requirements are fully understood.

The animation highlights three distinct application methods: a standard detail using a solid 3 ½” Versa-Lam® rimboard, a second option using a built-up rimboard of two 1 ¾” pieces, and a third detail featuring rimboard blocking installed between the joists. This final blocking method is specifically noted for its utility in retrofit applications or designs where a thinner rimboard is necessary, showcasing the flexibility of the Boise Cascade product line in meeting strict code requirements.
